It is a difficult time for many people at the moment dealing with the coronavirus, some more so than others, especially if you find yourself sleeping rough. That is why I am pleased to see £6 million of government funding going to over 130 charities supporting rough sleepers. Charities such as Derbyshire YMCA and the Padley Group will benefit from this extra funding to help those sleeping rough in Derbyshire.
Derbyshire YMCA will receive £30,000 in funding and the Padley Group £50,000 to help homeless people during and after the pandemic. The funding will help provide beds along with support for both physical and mental health.
This additionally funding is part of a £750 million package of support to help UK charities impacted by the pandemic of which £360 million is dedicated to end homelessness. We have successfully provide accommodation to 90% of rough sleepers known to councils, with over 15,000 helped off the streets.
We have worked hard in South Derbyshire to end homelessness and we will continue to provide support and work with charities to end homelessness.
