Heather Wheeler MP for South Derbyshire said “Each month the UK employment figures are released and often Constituents ask me about how the economy and jobs are faring. It has always been a high priority for me to make sure our local economy is strong and can grow, but it is just as important that they are quality jobs, indeed what some people might call ‘proper jobs’. So when this month’s figures were released I was delighted that UK employment is at an all-time high of 76.3%, with over two thirds of this growth in the last year coming from women working full-time.
Unemployment is at its lowest level since the 1970’s and we are also seeing wages continuing to increase.
She want on to say “These new figures showing employment going up yet again and wages continuing to rise gives us a great start to the new year. It is also welcoming to see more women working full-time, an increase of almost 10% since November 2015.
More women are pursuing the careers they had always dreamed of, aiming high and achieving success. These are the role models for today’s young women, showing them they can succeed and become anything they want to be.
South Derbyshire businesses are always looking for employees with ability and it would seem women are fitting the bill. I want 2020 to be the year where we confound the doomsters and post Brexit our economy storms ahead.”
