Since Brexit, we have been given a number of opportunities, one of them is the ability to attract skilled professionals on a more global stage. Previously, professional qualifications were mutually recognised under EU law. However, with the new Bill that the UK Government is bringing forward, we can open this up to the global stage and secure mutual recognition of skills and qualifications with partners around the world.
This means that we will be able to attract skilled workers from round the world and ensure that the UK is able to lead globally. Furthermore, it will enable UK businesses to develop stronger ties and secure new business in growing markets in areas like Asia, the Middle East and America.
In a competitive world this new found freedom presents a wealth of opportunities. The new framework grasps these opportunities, regulators will have the autonomy to assess qualifications, and to pursue arrangements with counterparts in other countries in the interests of their professions.
These new powers will also be given to devolved administrations, allowing all areas of the UK to take advantage of the UK’s global trading status, meeting the needs of individual professions across the UK. Opening the door to global talent could unlock further growth as we build back stronger.
Heather Wheeler MP for South Derbyshire said; “I welcome this new legislation and the opportunities it brings. I believe we should be reaching out and attracting talented individuals, especially in areas where there are shortages of skilled workers.
“In South Derbyshire, there are a number of businesses who I believe will benefit from this legislation, it will boost growth and attract the talent we need.
“The UK qualifications are the gold standard and this new legislation will further bolster this reputation and see us go from strength to strength. I have seen this for myself when I signed the agreement in Vietnam for our Professional Accountants qualifications to be used and accepted there, truly the gold standard”.
