Finding a vaccine is essential if we are to well and truly defeat the coronavirus. We already have a number of promising leads, so much so we will be conducting clinical trials in the near future. So far, 100,000 people have signed up for the future COVID-19 clinical trials through the NHS COVID-19 vaccine research registry.
It is crucial that people volunteer to help support their efforts to find a safe and effective vaccine. Researchers are now urging more volunteers to come forwards, from all backgrounds especially those over 65 and from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.
In order to conduct large-scale studies, we need as many people as possible to register by October and have people from all walks of life ages and ethnicity so we can truly understand how effective a vaccine is.
Protecting those most at risk is a priority and when a vaccine is found the most vulnerable, alongside frontline health and social care workers, will be the first to receive it. Scientists have been working round the clock and I would urge people in South Derbyshire to register for the trial so the vaccine can be proved and the virus defeated.
