MP for South Derbyshire, Heather Wheeler, has been appointed to the Government in Prime Minister Theresa May’s reshuffle.
Heather has joined the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State and her portfolio is Housing & Homelessness.
She will be drawing together policy on issues which include leasehold reform, refuges, ensuring builders comply with planning and quality conditions and on homelessness. Heather will lead on the Rough Sleeper strategy.
Following her appointment, Heather said:
“It is an honour to have been asked by the Prime Minister to join the Government team and I was delighted to accept.
The Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government is an important department whose job is to create great places to live and work and to ensure that people who buy or rent homes, or vulnerable people who require accommodation, will be looked after in the future.
I bring all of my years of experience as a local government councillor to the job, and, using the successes we have achieved in South Derbyshire as a guide, I am looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
