The coronavirus has created difficulties for businesses generally and the government has done and is doing all it can to support them.
In pursuit of its Green agenda, the government recognises how the key to creating new jobs in the future is to ensure the UK’s greenest and most innovative businesses thrive during the pandemic, and I am delighted to see the Government are giving them additional support of £134 million.
The government will now be investing in over 1000 creative projects to develop new technologies, create jobs and tackle climate change. Examples are, a project to use Artificial Intelligence to reduce beer waste, another to convert seaweed into compostable package and one to use Robots to detect and repair potholes. These projects are green, creative and dynamic and will provide a boost to the UK economy, using imaginative new ideas to solve the problems of today and tomorrow.
Throughout industrial history as one type of industry fades in importance another new and previously unthought-of industry comes along and takes its place. This is what these new green businesses will do, transforming industry and finding new ways to respond to the challenges we face and addressing some of those the pandemic has highlighted. These business entrepreneurs look at our modern-day challenges through a different lens and come up with amazing solutions.
In South Derbyshire, we already have some of the most fantastic ingenious businesses in the UK and I am pleased the additional funding is there to support them and other similar businesses coming on stream. By supporting them we will see the creation of many new and exciting jobs.
