Recently the Royal British Legion (RBL) Swadlincote Branch brought to my attention changes to compensation for Veterans diagnosed with Mesothelioma. On 16th December 2015 the Ministry of Defence (MOD) changed rules to allow Veterans on or after that date to choose whether to have a tax-free lump sum payment or a traditional War Disablement Pension paid in regular instalments. This alone was great news for thousands of Veterans, but now the MOD, after RBL pressure, are extending eligibility for the lump sum of £140,000 to before that date.
All of this great news will help many Veterans across the country and in South Derbyshire and is testament to the Royal British Legion’s hard work in campaigning for changes since 2013. If anyone thinks they might be entitled to this recently approved money or needs more information about the compensation then please contact ‘Veterans UK’, their details can be found below.
I’m sure everyone will join me in congratulating the Royal British Legion and their continued hard work for those who keep us safe.
