Last Friday, the MP for South Derbyshire, Heather Wheeler, paid a visit to Gibson Technology inRepton and met with John Manchester, Operations Director and James Hibbert, Commercial Director, to discuss the business and its plans for the future.
Gibson Technology is a world leading manufacturer of high performance LMP1 and LMP2 (Le Mans Prototype) powertrains, dedicated to delivering exceptional quality and innovation. They have created a global reputation for excellence in performance and reliability in designing, developing and manufacturing race systems encompassing engines, electronics and electronic gearshift systems.
Gibson Technology powers teams to success in the FIA World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series, IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, and the world-renowned Le Mans 24 hours and 24 hours of Daytona.
In addition to this, research and development work has commenced on a high profile racing programme, which will incorporate a new combustion technology concept, increasing engine performance, whilst giving a significant reduction in fuel consumption and emissions. This work will require the design, development and manufacture of a new racing engine along with a hybrid system, which will utilise cutting-edge technology.
The company has also moved into other markets outside of pure motorsport, where their skills and capabilities can be utilised, along with their knowledge of high efficiency / light weight / cost effective powertrains and electrical systems. Based on this they have started designing and developing an ultra-compact, high efficiency, light weight electrical generator targeting many different non motorsport sectors.
Following her visit, Heather Wheeler said:
“I was very pleased to pay a visit to Gibson Technology last week and to meet with not only John and Jim, but also some of the incredibly skilled engineers and technicians who make the company so special.
I always say that Gibson Technology is one of South Derbyshire’s best kept secrets and both the range and complexity of the work they carry out is simply astonishing.
The company is very much looking to the future with its plans to expand into other sectors with innovative designs based on their high speed racing knowledge and I wish them all the best in their endeavours.”
John Manchester, Operations Director at Gibson Technology added:
“We were delighted and honoured to again have South Derbyshire MP Heather Wheeler visit our engineering facilities in Repton.
With our current expansion, in both the motorsport and non-motorsport sectors, the visit presented us with the perfect opportunity to demonstrate our very latest cutting-edge technology and also our extensive engineering capabilities”.
