Securing a COVID-19 vaccine is a priority but also ensuring its distribution as quickly as possible is also crucial. The University of Oxford’s potential COVID-19 vaccine is a leading candidate globally. British- Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca is working closely with Oxford Universities team to ensure the vaccine is globally available.
AstraZeneca, Siam Bioscience and SCG announced their intentions to manufacture Oxford Universities vaccine in Thailand and, if successful, they will commence with the vaccination of the Thai population in the first half of 2021. The largescale manufacturing by Siam Bioscience will secure access to this potential vaccine in Southeast Asia and beyond.
AstraZeneca is providing the potential vaccine at no profit during the pandemic and will work with Siam Bioscience to set up the manufacturing facilities through technology transfer.
By working together, we can ensure the quick and even distribution of a vaccine once it is secured. This new partnership will give access to million of people and save lives.
Scientists are working round the clock to secure a safe and effective vaccine and by ensuring its distribution we can defeat this virus, rebuild a strong economy and forge new and stronger partnerships with our ASEAN friends.
