On Wednesday I raised my concerns about the redundancy plans of Rolls-Royce Aerospace Group in the House of Commons.
This is understandably unsettling news for all of Rolls-Royce employees, many of whom live in South Derbyshire and the surrounding areas.
As soon as I was made aware of the situation yesterday I immediately contacted Rolls Royce to ascertain the possible impact in Derby.
In the House I asked the relevant Minister, Matthew Hancock MP, whether the Government could help with redeployment of this skilled workforce into the production of Rolls-Royce engines for turbines in gas-fired power stations: an industry which I know has a buoyant future.
I will do all I can to aid my constituents through the next 18 months and work with local companies to find alternative employment opportunities should that prove necessary.
