TechxFest is the first event of its kind in the UK and provides an opportunity for employers to promote technical careers to Year 9 and 10 students from the East Midlands. This is a great opportunity for year 9 and 10 pupils across South Derbyshire to network and learn from some of the UK’s top technical employers!
Despite the critical roles of technicians to all aspects of society, the technical profession suffers from a lack of visibility and recognition, and career opportunities are often not promoted or well known. Consequently the UK has a shortage of technicians across all sectors with many employers struggling to recruit to technical roles. Recent reforms to post-16 technical education and national initiatives such as the Gatsby ‘Technicians Make it Happen’ campaign are at the forefront of inspiring the next generation of skilled technicians in the UK. TechxFest has been designed as an intervention to bring technicians and their skills to life for Year 9 and 10 school students and encourage them to consider a future technical career path as a result.
This new and innovative event will be held at Derby Arena on 28th September 2023 between 09:30 – 15:00. There will be a morning or afternoon slot that schools can book for their Year 9 and 10 students.
I would encourage every secondary school in South Derbyshire to attend this event!
