On Friday, 11th November 2022, Heather Wheeler MP visited Belmont Primary school in Swadlincote to meet with the Headteacher, Mrs Fern, and be questioned by members of Belmont School Council as part of Parliament Week.
Heather Wheeler MP said: “I was impressed by the level of questioning I got from the pupils. They were all well prepared – I received the questions before our meeting – not something that normally happens. The truth is children always ask such insightful questions and their knowledge of current affairs made them a credit to their parents and the school.
“Parliament week is organised widen an understanding of what happens in Parliament and I would recommend schools and local organisations getting involved.”
Mrs Fern, Headteacher of Belmont Primary School says: “Our School Council is an important part of the school. The prime minister is elected by the whole school voting after watching video presentations from those who wish to stand for prime minister. The pupils have enjoyed taking part in Parliament week and being able to question their representative in Parliament. We thank Mrs Wheeler for joining us."
