AN event organised to bring together the residents of a housing estate in South Derbyshire brought people flocking at the weekend.
GoFest, arranged by South Derbyshire Centre for Voluntary Services (CVS), saw people of all ages head to Goseley Community Centre, in Hartshorne, to try out activities and learn more about what happens in the area.
There were also activities taking place at the Goseley Recreation Ground.
Cathy Miles, community development worker for South Derbyshire CVS, told the Mail during the event: "This is the first one, and it seems to be going well. It's proving a really lovely free day for everyone.
"It would be great if it could become an annual thing.
"It's about getting people involved in stuff going on in their own community."
The organisation began working with the committee at the community centre some time ago, to come up with an idea to get people in the area more engaged with the estate where they live.
The idea came about after a lot of new people moved into the area, in a bid to bring the community together and give the area a boost.
There were certainly a lot of happy faces at the community centre, as families enjoyed a bouncy castle, silk painting, willow weaving and kite making. There was also a film about the history of the area and the opening of the community centre. A tea party took place later on.
Ms Miles said the intention was to involve older people in the event as well.
Outdoor activities at the recreation ground were very popular. They included inflatable laser combat, Xplorer activities and FA goal scoring, as well as traditional village games.
Everyone attending the event was asked to fill in a questionnaire asking what activities they were already involved in, and what they would like to see.
"We want to bring the information together and hopefully put some stuff on so they will want to get involved with," Ms Miles said.
