We are again greeted by another fall in unemployment in South Derbyshire. A month ago unemployment figures stood at 1%, they are now just 0.9%. This further fall is proof the South Derbyshire economy is continuing to go from strength to strength and that local businesses are expanding in line with the growth of the British economy.
South Derbyshire has a long and vibrant industrial history so it is no surprise businesses want to re-locate to or expand their current operations in our area and this is generating the infrastructure, stability and jobs we need.
If we compare todays unemployment figures less than 1% with this time last year of 1.7% the number of people out of work have almost halved. Furthermore since May 2014 youth unemployment has more than halved from 3.9% to 1.5%.
These excellent figures mean last month another 32 families found work and are providing for their needs. I will continue to work hard for the people of South Derbyshire and work with local, national and international businesses so that we have a society where all who want a job can get one.
