What an exciting month in politics with Theresa May MP being chosen to lead the Conservative Party and become our second female Prime Minister. I believe she is the fresh leader Britain needs and her appointment brings to an end any political and economic uncertainty.
In her first address as Prime Minister Theresa May highlighted the word ‘Union’ from the full title of our Party, the Conservative and Unionist Party. She believes in the Union, the special bond between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, but more than that, the union of our citizens too.
Theresa May’s Government will be driven not by the interests of the privileged few, but by yours. She and our Government will do everything we can to give you more control over your lives, and, when we pass new laws our consideration will be how they affect you not the powerful in our society. Her ambition is, whatever your background, everyone can go as far as their talents will take them. She is also concerned to ensure racial harmony in our Country, where no one is treated differently just because of the colour of their skin.
Following the referendum we face a time of great national change. I believe Mrs May will rise to the challenge to provide Britain with a strong and positive role throughout the world. She will lead us and build a safe and better Britain for the future, a policy she also followed in her six years as Home Secretary.
Mrs May believes that Brexit means Brexit, so our Government will definitely leave the EU, will make no attempt to re-join the EU or have a second referendum. Our country voted to leave the European Union, and it is the duty of Government and of parliament to follow the wishes of the people.
Looking ahead, negotiating the best possible terms for the UK outside the EU will be crucial for our future prosperity. Theresa May has appointed strong people to ensure this happens and has been radical in her choices showing incredible decisiveness and true leadership, just what the Country needs at this time. She is a woman prepared to make tough decisions and take on vested interests.
I believe she will work to restore political and economic stability, bringing together the party and the country, and will negotiate a sensible and organised departure from the EU. More than that she will work to make a Britain that works for every one of our citizens.
Theresa May as our new Prime Minister will give us strong leadership, a clear plan and build us a brighter and better future for Britain. I am honoured to have been chosen to be part of the new Government Team.
