I was delighted to support World Book Day’s national ‘Share a Story’ campaign by encouraging parents and careers to spend just ten minutes a day reading with children.
Each year World Book Day creates unique £1 books across the UK and Ireland to encourage children and young adults to read more. The aim is to highlight the importance of reading not just in rems o education but also bringing families together and inspire the imagination.
In celebration of World book day, every child in South Derbyshire will be given a £1 book token where they can take this to a supermarket or book shop and get their free World Book Day book. Reading is essential to help children’s development and spending just ten minutes a day reading to them can have a profound impact on their future. Additionally it is an excellent opportunity to spend quality time with one another sharing stories.
This year’s World Book Day 2020 is calling on the nation to share a million stories through a mass participation initiative. All you have to do is register your participation and share a story through World Book Day month
(27th February – 29th March 2020) to be in with a chance of winning prizes and joining a nationwide reading revolution.
I hope parents, grandparents and carers in South Derbyshire take the time to read for ten minutes with their children. I always used to love having one to one time with my daughter which can often be difficult in our busy lives. Sharing stories together, at home or school, in the library or in the park, on a bus or train – anywhere, anytime – for just ten minutes a day has long-lasting effects on a child’s future.
