I’m delighted that the Government’s Job Retention Scheme is now live, businesses in South Derbyshire will now be able to claim up to £2,500 a month towards staff wages to help businesses and employees affected by the Coronavirus.
Employers can apply for direct cash grants through HMRC’s new online portal - with the money expected to land in your bank accounts within six working days.
The scheme will allow employers to claim a cash grant for up to 80% of a furloughed employees wages, this is capped at £2,500. The package announced will help protect jobs and businesses that have had to close due to the Coronavirus and provide security to families in this difficult time. I would advise anyone who is struggling for funding to please visit https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-for-wages-through-the-coronavirus-job-retention-scheme to find out more.
140,000 businesses have already applied to this scheme which will help millions of people in the UK. HMRC have an easy to use online portal to help you there is also an online chat and phoneline to help if you have any questions.
The Job Retention Scheme is part of a package of measures announced by the Chancellor to support the country through the coronavirus pandemic. He has already supported employers with a £30bn injection of cash by deferring VAT payments for the next quarter, has launched a scheme for the self-employed, loans for businesses and a rise in Universal Credit.
The amount of financial support is unprecedented with many now working from home or have been furloughed. People must continue to stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.
