A gambling problem can be very serious for people with very real and serious consequences. it can lead to an untold amount of debt with some even losing their homes and savings. That is why we must do what we can to help protect people at this difficult time. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has requested regular updates to understand what the industry is doing to manage the risk of problem gambling.
We have also called for a greater prominence of safer gambling messages within their advertising to warn people of the risks and signpost people to sources of support such as Gamble Aware. The Government has already taken steps to reduce the risk by banning the use of Credit cards for placing bets this came in on the 14th of April. However, during this time we must be extra careful to monitor if risks are materialising, what action is being taken and try to help people where we can.
