Monday marks a landmark change as business start to reopen, this doesn’t mean the coronavirus has gone away though. It’s still here but the number of cases continues to drop and the rate of transmission remains below one. From Monday the 15th of June, places of worship, non-essential goods shops, zoos, safari parks and drive-in cinemas will open.
Businesses in South Derbyshire will begin to open but with new safety measures in place, these are for both customers and employees safety so please do follow them carefully. Department stores, books shops, electronic stores, indoor markets, auction houses, shoes and toy shops will open. There will be a limit on the number of people allowed in stores, along with restrictions on trying items of clothing on. There will certainly be noticeable changes.
After this difficult period and the light at the end of the tunnel grows ever closer, we must remain alert and adhere to social distancing rules if not to protect ourselves but certainly others. I am pleased to see shops and businesses in South Derbyshire beginning to open and it is important we do what we can to support local businesses.
It is not just shops that are opening but also other things such as outdoor attractions, this includes zoos and drive-in cinemas. Many of you have written to me concerned for the future of zoos and we have listened. Zoos such as Twycross and Peak wildlife park will open their doors from next week and with many children still at home, this could provide a fun and educational day out.
I would like to quickly remind everyone to carry on adhering to social distancing measures and welcome the opening of local businesses across South Derbyshire.
