I am delighted to hear and show my support to the work eBay is doing to support charities across the UK. They have announced an additional £1.7 million of funding to help 250 charities who sell on their platform, who had been forced to shut online and offline work due to the coronavirus.
I have always been a great supporter of the Royal British Legion and their work to support veterans and their families, this is why I was particularly pleased to hear that they will be receiving £50,000 as part of this grant. There are many fantastic charities in South Derbyshire who do incredible work to support people in our community and I know that the coronavirus has had a profound impact on them. I hope that schemes like this and support they have received financially from companies such as eBay and the UK government
One of the UK governments focuses since the start of the pandemic if not before was on skills, in particular digital skills. Since then the UK government and companies across the UK including places like Rolls Royce have given people the opportunity to upskill by providing free online courses to improve the work forces digital skills. eBay are now joining this and have created a new Charity Connect Programme in partnership with the Charity Retail Association. This fantastic new programme will give 500 charities the chance to upskill and provide them with training from next month.
