Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of former Councillor Gillian Lemmon whose sad death between the close of poll and the declaration of results resulted in the abandonment of the election for the Hilton ward.
Gillian moved to South Derbyshire in 2007 with her husband Colin, where she wasted no time getting involved in her local community. As well as serving as a South Derbyshire District Councillor from 06 May 2021 until 04 May 2023, Gillian was involved in many local community groups and her local parish council. She also was a member of the UK Royal Volunteer Service helping local residents through the pandemic. She was always eager to give back to the community and ensure it was represented by someone that truly cares. Her work as a councillor was invaluable and she will be sorely missed.
Heather was lucky enough today to get a PMQ, where she raised the sad passing of Gillian in the House of Commons. In light of this unique event, the Deputy Prime Minister agreed with Heather that the best way to commemorate the hard wok Gillian had done for Hilton, the people of Hilton Ward should vote for all three Conservative Candidates on the 15th of June.
Heather says, “It is a tragic day with the loss of Gillian Lemmon and when those three by-election seats come back around, we will absolutely fight it in her honour.”
