Heather writes to providers
The Government has announced up to £80 million in addition grant funding to upgrade the heating and energy efficiency of England’s social housing. This is part of a long term multi-billion-pound programme.
The funding is available to South Derbyshire District Council, as the Local Authority and to other social housing providers such as housing association so they can install energy efficiency measures such as insulation and heat pumps in the worst performing socially rented homes.
Heather Wheeler MP says:
“This is a marvellous opportunity and a pragmatic approach to really take steps towards helping our environment and the Net Zero target. I have written to our housing associations as well as SDDC to make sure they are amongst the first on the uptake.
“I sometimes think that there is a lot of virtue signally around climate change and upgrading our social housing stock is absolutely the first step that should be taken. Positive action which actually helps people both with becoming greener and with their cost of living.”
