Heather Wheeler MP for South Derbyshire, “cut the ribbon” recently with Postmaster, Javed Iqbal, to mark the official opening of Swadlincote Post Office at its new attractive location.
Swadlincote Post Office has opened at 8 Midland Road, Swadlincote, DE11 0AG, which is just across the way from its previous location in Midland Road, had been run by a temporary Postmaster and we had been looking for a permanent solution.
The picturesque premises underwent a full refurbishment for Swadlincote Post Office alongside stationery, cards, confectionery retail and a photo booth.
Swadlincote Post Office now has a permanent, new Postmaster, Javed Iqbal, who is highly experienced. He will be running the branch with his daughter, Iqra, and some of the familiar staff from the previous Swadlincote Post Office
Javed has been a Postmaster for 26 years and he also currently owns Loughborough Post Office, which is run by his sons. Over the years and he has run other large Post Offices in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.
Heather said: “This is a first class Post Office in wonderful premises. I sincerely want to thank Postmaster Javed Iqbal for taking on Swadlincote Post Office and with great retail. There is a real buzz of excitement about the relocation of this branch and the big investment that Javed has made. A Post Office really is at the heart of a community and it offers so many vital services.”
Postmaster, Javed Iqbal, said: “This is my first ever Post Office in Derbyshire and the people of Swadlincote have been very friendly and welcoming.
“I have to say that this is by far the most beautiful premises that I have owned. Most shop premises are just boring square or rectangular, but this building is full of character. I fell in love with the shop as soon as I saw it. I have to thank South Derbyshire District Council, who helped me to find these great premises. The refurbishment was in keeping with the heritage of this parade of shops.
“Customers are very happy indeed. It is very close to the previous location, but with closer parking. They also love the new building and really like what I have done with the retail on the inside. My daughter, Iqra, and some of the familiar staff from the previous Swadlincote Post Office, will help me to run this branch.”
Javed has been busy meeting with local businesses and residents to raise awareness of all the products and services available to this branch including personal and business banking and a full range of foreign currencies. Swadlincote Post Office also offers DPD and Evri mail services in addition to Royal Mail and Parcelforce, giving customers great choice.
